Decembers White Dwarf
Osyen @ 10:10 pm EST

If you're into Games Workshop this month's magazines worth picking up (and not just cause Aragorn's on the cover). They've got pictures of some award winning models including a best movie scene model of the black rider and the hobbits that's very inspiring, as well as a helms deep and weather top models. There's a four page section of tactics and strategy for the rotk battles, detailed instructions for making a game board, a 17 page 4 part battle report including diagrams and pictures from the movie, painting guide for mordor orcs and a new rotk scenario. It also comes with this huge fold out poster of all the sets and what the release dates for them are. Very cool all around.

Attention fellow holiday shoppers
Osyen @ 9:50 pm EST

So I just got a few games in my birthday loot including LOTR Monopoly (from Parker Brothers) and LOTR checkers (from usaopoly). The Monopoly is truly bizarre because the money isn't money persay, but power credits (and what is money but power, afterall, so I guess it makes sense). It's also my favorite version of monopoly ever because there's a twist with the ring that makes it have the potential of a LOT shorter game and plus, how cool is it that you can get a monopoly in elvish kingdoms? (super cool) The lotr checkers comes in a neato tin can with a middle earth map board and plastic silver and gold One Rings for the pieces. Both are really fun and make good gifts.

However, the MEO website still has us in breathless anticipation. Check out their latest developer's diary, by team programmer Fausto. [More]

New miniatures from Games Workshop!
Luthien @ 2:30 am EST

We've recently been sent some very posh images of new releases from Games Workshop's Rotk table-top battle game. The official press release writes: All warriors need leaders, be they foul Orcs of Mordor or the brave defenders of Gondor. Each of these blister packs comes with one Captain and one Standard Bearer. Captains add Might, Will, and Fate points to your forces, and allow players to better control their forces. The new rules for banners in The Return of the King make Standard Bearers very valuable, as they allow the user to re-roll one of the dice in deciding combat resolution. [More]
