ROTK Preview on 'Electric Playground'
Xoanon @ 12:09 pm EST

Ryan writes: I'm not sure if it was a repeat, but I just watched The Electric Playground (videogame and comic book show) and they previewed the Return of the King game coming out November 4.

The interview was with Steve Gray (director of game development) and he gave away a lot of details. He mentioned that two players can now place this game (as opposed to TTT game, in which only one player could play) and some of the playable characters include Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Faramir, Eowyn, Gollum, Sam, Frodo, and Gandalf, among others. Far more characters to choose from this time.

He also talked about how much the Nazguls will be involved in the game.

They showed lots of clips with the Nazgul attacking Minis Tirith. He also mentioned that Shelob will be in the game (I'm assuming as a 'boss'), but of course they didn't dare show her yet.

Another highlight of the preview was some in-game sequences showing massive trolls pushing huge siege towers up to the first wall of Minis Tirith, which we only caught a little glimpse of in the RotK featurette on TTT DVD.

This game is going to be incredible - even the stunt crew from the movies came in during the videogame production to motion capture all of their moves.

Reason for Treason - Why did Treason of Isengard get cancelled?
Xoanon @ 1:35 pm EST

More than two years ago dozens of game companies rushed, with all the seemingly best intentions, to nail down the videogame rights to then up-and-coming Lord of the Rings movies envisioned by director Peter Jackson. Fast forward to fall 2003, and VU Games, which published Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring for PS2 and Xbox in 2002, announced Friday the cancellation of the sequel, Lord of the Rings: Treason of Isengard on both systems because it did not meet expectations. Looking into the matter, IGN interviewed Andrew Shiozaki, senior brand manager at Vivendi Universal Games, about underlying reasons behind the so-called treason. [More]
